Task 4: Chinese New Year & Chinese Zodiac
Teaching & Learning Process
Objective: To gain an understanding of the underlying beliefs, traditions and meanings of Chinese New Year and the Chinese Zodiac.
- Identify the general meaning/purpose of Chinese New Year
- Identify the significance of decorations, fireworks and other rituals
- Understand when Chinese New Year takes place and for how long
- Compare and contrast Chinese New Year to an Australia New Year
- Identify what year of the animal they were born in
- Analyse personal traits/characteristics of their animal
- Reflect on their animal in regards to their own traits and beliefs
Assessment
Observation:
- Work sample of worksheets
- Discussion on how the Chinese Zodiac animal is similar to their own traits
